galectin-3 Antibody (B2C10) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody engineered to target galectin-3, also known as ac-2, hMac-2 (human Mac-2), GALBP (galactose-binding protein), CBP35 (carbohydrate-binding protein 35), and LGALS3 (lectin, galactoside-binding, soluble, 3). Anti-galectin-3 antibody (B2C10) is raised against recombinant human galectin-3 with an epitope mapped within the first 18 amino acids, and is recommended for detecting galectin-3 in mouse, rat, and human samples using western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). Galectin-3 is a member of the galectin family of soluble β-galactoside-binding lectins characterized by a single carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) that is essential for binding to galactose-containing glycoconjugates. This structural feature enables galectin-3 to mediate important biological processes such as cell-to-cell adhesion, cell-to-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, and cellular signaling pathways. The ability of galectin-3 to form oligomers and interact with multiple ligands through CRD allows influence over diverse cellular functions including tumor progression, metastasis, apoptosis, and pre-mRNA splicing. Galectin-3 can exist in both monomeric and oligomeric forms, which is important for regulating immune responses, inflammation, and cancer cell behavior. Galectin-3 functions both intracellularly, participating in signaling pathways and RNA processing, and extracellularly, facilitating cell adhesion and migration by interacting with ECM components. Galectin-3 expression is prominent in colonic and intestinal epithelial cells, inflammatory macrophages, papillary and follicular carcinomas, neoplastic astrocytes, and certain B and T lymphocytes. Upregulated galectin-3 expression closely associates with enhanced cancer progression and metastasis, thyroid malignancies, and Crohn′s disease, serving as a valuable diagnostic marker for conditions including Hurthle cell adenomas and carcinomas. Galectin-3 monoclonal antibody (B2C10) is available in non-conjugated form and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates.
