Imipenem Monohydrate is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Studies report that Pseudomonas aeruginosa exposed to Imipenem Monohydrate shows higher resistancy when treated with zinc eluted from siliocinized latex. In addition, Pseudomonas aeruginosa studies show that loss of the DOR-1 (OprD) porin protein leads to Imipenem Monohydrate resistance. Imipenem Monohydrate prevents bacterial cell wall synthesis by inhibiting penicillin binding proteins. It exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
