ST8Sia II Antibody (B-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects ST8Sia II protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ST8Sia II (B-12) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. ST8Sia II protein, also known as ST8 alpha-N-acetyl-neuraminide alpha-2,8-sialyltransferase II, STX, or SIAT8B, is a 375 amino acid single-pass type II membrane protein primarily located in the Golgi apparatus. This localization facilitates ST8Sia II′s role in glycosylation processes, specifically in transferring sialic acid to N-linked glycoproteins and oligosaccharides. ST8Sia II utilizes CMP-sialic acid as a donor to create alpha-2,8-linkages with existing sialic acid residues, thereby influencing glycoprotein structure and function. ST8Sia II plays a crucial role in synthesizing polysialic acid (PSA), essential for neuronal plasticity and development. Dysregulation of ST8Sia II has been linked to various neurological disorders, including schizophrenia, as well as tumorigenesis, highlighting ST8Sia II′s significance in both normal physiology and disease states.
